Printer salesHaving printer problems? Do you need to make a printer repair?

It may be time to buy a new printer instead!

Printers are one of the most complicated pieces of technological equipment to buy. If you’ve been reading our blog, you know that the real cost of any printer is in the ink. And in some cases, the long-term maintenance adds up too.

But, what’s so good (and not so good) about some of the leading brands of printers out there? Learn more below:

1.    What the Dell is Going on Here?
Dell actually makes a pretty good line of printers. They have a diverse product line, which addresses any printing needs you could possibly have. They’re also priced well.  One of the knocks against Dell is their spotty customer service record. In some cases it’s great, but in others not so much. If you’re getting good customer service, though, stick with Dell.

2.    Oh, Brother, Where Art Thou?
If you need to print, scan, and fax documents, and you’re a SMB or micro-SMB with medium to low volumes of work, Brother has a great product line for you. Brother’s printers are best used for printing black-and-white photos. Color images and photos have somewhat inconsistent quality. Brother’s workhorse printer is the MFC-J6920DW.

3.    It’s Bombs Away with Cannon!
Cannon’s printers have a wide range of versatility. They work well for high-volume personal printing, but they’re also serviceable for low and medium-volume shared printing in small offices. If you don’t need duplexing, the MF4770N makes more sense because it costs lesser than the imageClass MF 4570dn. The graphics quality on their printers isn’t the greatest, but they do an awesome job for most basic printing processes. You really can’t go wrong with purchasing either of these printers.

4.    Xerox (Come up with Your Own Witty Headline!)
For medium and heavy print loads, Xerox does an awesome job. Besides handling high print loads well, Xerox’s printers come with a long list of useful features. Xerox’s flagship heavy-duty printer is the WorkCentre 3615/DN. It also supports mobile and cloud-based printing over Wi-Fi from all major smartphone manufacturers.

5.    Get High Horsepower with HP
Hewlett Packard makes a range of printers for different needs, but their best value printers can kick out an amazing 75,000 pages per month (like the HP LaserJet Pro MFP M521dn). And you get good text quality too. What separates their flagship printer from others in its class is its ability to perform duplex scan and copy operations. And it duplexes both sides of the page at the same time. Most duplexing printers scan or copy one side, turn the paper over, and then scan or copy the other side.

Consider a Refurbished Printer

Those are some of the leading brands. Every brand has its own leading model, and in most cases, the leading model is a good one for most medium and small businesses to buy.  It may be beneficial to consider a refurbished printer as well, alleviating some of the initial upfront costs of a printer.  Great Lakes Computer sells new and refurbished printers.
